QUINTA DA CABRITA FULL DESCRIPTION:

In a peaceful location and offering total relaxation, this unique 18th century Portuguese farm comprises of thirty acres of vineyards and agricultural fields, in an area ideal for long walks, cycling or horse riding.

The Manor House and the four cottages that comprise Quinta da Cabrita are available to rented together for the exclusive use of one group only; but when the manor house is not occupied, it is also possible to rent any of the cottages individually, sharing all the amenities. All the buildings have been carefully restored to retain their original character with thick walls, wooden ceilings, terracotta tiled floors, and original windows, decorated in a comfortable “country casual style”.   Equipped with modern day comforts for winter or summer rentals each property also boasts air-conditioning (hot & cold), a fire place in the sitting room, a TV, DVD player and music system. The cottages have 4 basic Portuguese TV channels, whilst the Manor House is fitted with an extra 64 international cable channels.

The Manor House is a detached building on two levels;   Casa da Amendoeira is a separate cottage; and all the others are semi-detached. Each unit also has a private terrace with sun loungers. Large areas of lawn planted with various fruit trees surround the whole “Quinta” and all the buildings are set around a central shared swimming pool (approx 12 x 3,5 meters w/ ladder), where there are some more sun loungers and sun shade. The pool house has a barbeque and laundry room with washing machine and dryer for communal use.

For those who cant “just relax” there are a few extra amenities to keep you entertained - a computer with web access for client use at the reception/office; a DVD library to choose from; a games room with billiards, bicycles for hire (2 adults/2children); and especially for children, a wooden “Wendy” house, climbing frame and swings.

Golf lovers will enjoy playing at the “Golden Eagle” Golf Club, considered one of the best 18 holes in the Iberian Peninsula; whilst a short drive away, there is a magnificent beach at Foz do Arelho. Also not to be missed, is a visit to medieval Obidos, a hilltop castle town that keeps many of his ancient traditions and a strong cultural agenda live, so there is always something to do and something to see.

The property is located a few kilometers from Santarem, otherwise know as the capital of Portuguese gothic. The town is rich on historic monuments yet maintains strong agricultural roots and hosts many country fairs linked to either horse rearing or the local gastronomy. This area of the Tagus Valley (between the Alentejo and Ribatejo) offers a local fare of strong flavours best combined with locally produced wines, considered some of the best in the country – a chance to taste the real Portugal!

THINGS TO DO

• The property offers mountain bikes for hire  and horse riding can be arranged nearby.
• A not to be missed experience is a meal at "Taberna do Quizena" - head for the bullring /centre of Santarem and ask for the restautant, everyone knows it! It has long tables with benches and walls decorated with bullfighting mementoes. This place is full of character and  offers simple and delicious local fare, at very reasonable prices. Try the “Bacalhao com Mangusto” (bread stew with cabbage, slightly fried in olive oil).
• Visit the medieval hilltop castle town of Obidos nearby - it has a strong cultural agenda (from a medieval festival to a chocolate fair) and keeps many of his ancient traditions live, so there is always something to do and something to see.

Flexible change over days / Check-in  after 16:00 hours/check-out  before 10:00 hours. Continental breakfast and basic cleaning materials are included in the rental. Extra food items on request/at extra charge.  Household linen & pool towels supplied/changed 1 x week. Baby Cot/Extra Beds on request/at extra charge. Metered telephone/paid locally.

Manor House: Minimum rental period of 1 week for any Manor House Plus package. There are several TVs in this house, including LCD sets in the sitting room (40 inches) and in the master bedroom (32 inches). Most sets show 4 main Portuguese channels but extra cable channels (64 international stations) are also available in the master bedroom; sitting room and mezzanine floor. Kitchen equipped with gas hob, electric oven microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, coffee machine, electric kettle.

Cottages: Min stay is 3 nights (pro-rated). Kitchens equipped  with 3 electric hob/oven (except Laranjeira which has only 2 electric hob/no oven), fridge/freezer, dishwasher, kettle, coffee machine, toaster and microwave.
