QUINTA DO MONTE FULL DESCRIPTION:

The location of this property means that you can enjoy  a countryside and beach holiday in one   - situated less than two hours south of Lisbon in the Alentejo province of Portugal, this is an area of massive prairie landscapes, dotted with white washed villages, also know for its outstanding beautiful coast line, and good food and wines.
 
This comfortable country house overlooks the River Mira which is about 200 metres away, and most bedrooms and the several terraces, enjoy  beautiful river  views.  The interiors are well equipped, with a mix of rustic and stylish furnishings,  wood and stone flagged floors, and the rooms built around a central courtyard. Being a country property, there are some stuffed hunters & fisherman’s trophies as well as framed  butterflies and insect collections.

A swimming pool of 20 x 4  meters, with beach effect and gently slopping (0,30-1,80 metres deep), is ideal for young children.  There is also a  thatched gazebo with loungers and hammocks next to the swimming pool to provide lots of shade, plus a separate a straw hut/pool house equipped with shower, WC and drinks fridge.

The property is surrounded by 25  hectares of land, mostly planted with cork trees and reached by driving along a 2,5km country road through corn and sunflower fields.  This protected green belt area is idyllic  for country walks. You can also go fishing or swimming in the river (as well as the swimming pool or at the several  magnificent  beaches nearby). Within a short distance, Vila Nova de Milfontes offers a good choice of  restaurants such as  “a Choupana”, “o Celso” and “Dunas Parque” as well as quite a few places to have a drink in the late afternoon or evening.
 
Golf lovers can indulge themselves less than an hour away on the Troia golf course, whilst  horse riders will find a number of riding facilities to choose from in the area.

ACCOMMODATION – 10 GUESTS

Entrance hall. Open plan kitchen and dining room with fireplace and door to covered terrace with outdoor dining area. Larder and storage. Spacious sitting room/library with fireplace and doors to river facing terrace with pergola. Master bedroom with en suite bathroom (entrance is through bathroom), river views and door to terrace. At a lower level there are 2 double bedrooms (small doubles) and 1 twin bedroom, all with river views and sharing a large shower room with separate WC.  Split level double bedroom opening onto courtyard. Bathroom and guest WC.

Garage parking for 2 cars.

GARDEN COTTAGE ON REQUEST – 6/8 GUESTS

Ideal for teenagers, there is also a separate garden cottage (converted barn) with bunk beds, WC, small living room / kitchenette – this is available on request at an extra charge.

STAFF & SERVICES

Maid/housekeeper included 4 hours a day, weekdays only. Cook service (one meal per day at €60 per meal which does not include food and beverages) on request and payable locally.

Horse Riding & Para Gliding, 5-10 minutes; Vila Nova de Milfontes (shops, market, restaurants), 10 minutes; Malhão &  Furnas Beaches, 10 minutes; Sines (costal town of historic interest), 30 minutes; Troia Golf Course, 45 minutes; Lisbon Airport, 2 hours.

THINGS TO DO

  • Vila Nova de Milfontes is located on estuary of the river Mira, and the beach there offers you the change to swim on the river or the sea - beware of strong currents though! Do as the locals do after the beach - stroll around the village and shop for local gifts to take home, then eat a meal at one of the many cheap & cheerful eateries
  • It is also possible go horse riding nearby or go para-gliding near the property
  • Explore Évora (an UNESCO World Heritage Site) - This magnificent town is rich in history and culture such as churches and convents, palaces, roman temples and summer concerts

OTHER FACTS

Minimum rental period 3 nights. Preferred Sunday  arrival for 1 week bookings. Check-in after 16:00 hours/check-out before 10:00 hours.  Household linen + pool towels supplied/changed twice a week. Welcome Food Hamper included. Baby cot (w/linen) and high chair  available. Central heating and logs for fire places included in winter months. Other equipment: telephone, cable TV with Portuguese and English channels,  DVD player and library, CD player and library,  fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, gas oven/hob, electric grill,  washing machine and outdoor barbeque.

July/August - €700 per night (up to 10 guests)
All Other Periods (minimum 3 nights stay) - €600 per night (up to 10 guests)

BOOKING/CANCELLATION TERMS

  • 30% non-refundable deposit required to reserve the property
  • Balance due from 6 weeks prior to start date of rental
  • Security deposit (20% of gross total rent) due with rental balance – this is refundable minus any applicable charges within one month of the end of the  rental
