We get to know each of the featured holiday villas, cottages and apartments really well (they are inspected on a regular basis), so that we can give a personalized service dedicated to matching the right holiday rental to guests requirements, from honeymoon cottages to luxurious fully staffed villas for family holidays or corporate rentals; and then go about organizing all those little extras that make a vacation rental memorable, such as a private chef for a special occasion, yoga classes at your villa, one-to-one tennis coaching, or hassle free airport transfers.

"Amendoeiras em Flôr, Places to Stay and Things to Do in Portugal and Spain” is managed by Mandy de Azevedo Coutinho and her small team and has been operating since 2003. Mandy has dual Portuguese and British nationality and her past and current leisure travel know-how, stems from over 15 years of working directly and as a consultant for a number of renowned real estate companies, as well as luxury travel agents and villa tour operators, such as Hamptons International, Palmer & Parker Holidays, CV Travel (voted favourite Villa Rental Company by Condé Nast Traveller for a number of years), International Chapters and Abercrombie & Kent Villas. Mandy has travelled extensively for both business and pleasure, all over the Iberia Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

Why a villa holiday? There is no doubt that for a family vacation or for a group of friends (or even just for a couple), the price of a rental property adds up to considerably less than an hotel stay, as well as offer the benefit of more spacious and private accommodation, grounds and swimming pool, plus flexibility on meals.
Both Portugal and Spain are well known for their excellent weather conditions, coastal resorts and golf facilities, with no shortage of villas available through mainstream travel agents and tour operators; but the best selection of self catering or staffed, charming and luxurious rental properties are only known by rental specialists like Amendoeiras em Flôr. Also featured by us, our villas located in the three main Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca each offer a very inimitable vacation and lifestyle. All of our villa holidays have access to either a shared or a private swimming pool, whilst some also include a tennis court.
THE LEGEND OF THE ALMOND BLOSSOM
A long, long time ago, Al-Gharb (Southern Portugal) was occupied by the Moors and Chelb (now called Silves) was its capital. This land was ruled by the powerful but still young Ibne-Almundin. He was very brave and won many battles. One day, amongst the prisoners of yet another battle was a blue eyed and blond princess! The Moorish ruler fell immediately in love with Gilda, the beautiful princess of the North and released her from being his prisoner and slave, making her his wife. Chelb and its people celebrated the wedding with music, dancing and food for many days and nights. But, on the last day of the celebrations, the Moorish ruler found his beautiful Gilda in tears, looking sadly over the castle walls. On enquiring after her feelings, the sad princess said that she missed the snow of her native land. So Ibne-Almundin spoke to all the wise men in the country and asked them to find a cure. None was found, and Gilda got sadder and sadder, until one day a poet from a Northern country, also suffering from nostalgia for the snow of his homeland, suggested that the ruler, planted almond trees all over his kingdom then wait for them to blossom… And so it was, that the beautiful princess of the North, woke up one day to see most of the Al-Gharb countryside, covered in fragile white "Almond Blossom", resembling the snow of the Northern countries.
Today, almond trees still cover much to the southern Iberia Peninsula countryside, offering a spectacular site to our Northern visitors... We hope that you will be one of them!
